Jeddah: Completion of 6 projects to drain rain water, at a cost of one billion and 284 million
The Municipality of Jeddah Governorate announced the completion of six projects for rainwater networks and warding off the dangers of floods out of a total of 12 projects being implemented within the first phase at a total cost estimated at one billion and 284 million riyals.
The Under Secretary of the Rainwater Drainage Program, Eng. Ghassan bin Abdullah Al-Zahrani, explained that the completed projects include: (the critical sites project with a total of 30 sites – the Al-Waha neighborhood project – in addition to projects under the primary receiving procedures, namely: the lift station project for the Al-Salam tunnel – the Maidan Al-Sarya project – the tunnel project Prince Majed with Hira Street – Globe Square). The projects included the construction of pipes with lengths exceeding 61,500 meters, the installation of 623 manholes and 876 rain traps, as well as the installation of 191 tunneling tubes.
Al-Zahrani indicated that the implementation of six rainwater drainage projects is currently being completed within the first phase, including: (Al-Salam Palace Tunnel Tunneling Project (UP03) – Peace Tunnel Sub-Network Project – Al-Manar Neighborhood Project – Al-Nakhil Neighborhood Project, Al-Haramain Road – Al-Tayseer Neighborhood Project – Al-Asala neighborhood project), indicating that the first phase includes other projects, including those that are under the award and some of them in the contract approval phase, along with a package of projects in the design phase, pointing out that the construction projects at the governorate level that have been recently implemented and those that are being implemented will add to the city approximately 150 Km of linear kilometers of pipes, which will contribute to raising the network coverage rate in the city.
Al-Zahrani stated that the implementation of the projects is proceeding according to four phases, the first of which focused on targeting 30 sites located near the existing networks, in addition to implementing solutions for 6 tunnels in central and western Jeddah, as well as completing the treatment of 135 critical sites, adding that the second phase included the implementation of new outfall lines, and the phase focused The third phase includes the implementation of new main lines and linking them with the existing channels and others connecting to the new marine estuaries, while the fourth phase includes the implementation of branch lines and linking them with the existing and new main lines.
In a related context, the Jeddah Municipality has completed approximately 87% of the project to study and prepare the comprehensive plan and the detailed design for stormwater drainage networks for the city of Jeddah, at a total contract cost exceeding 129 million riyals, which is expected to be completed by March 2021.
The municipality explained that the general plan for rainwater drainage divided the city of Jeddah into 17 areas depending on the hydrology and topography of the region to determine the water basins, pointing out that the project includes providing studies of rainwater drainage solutions for the targeted areas at the level of the city of Jeddah and presenting the plan to complete the comprehensive scheme for rainwater drainage, in addition to Provide procedures for responding to the observations of the Project Management Office and re-offer disposal solutions for some projects under implementation, and deliver minutes of meetings, workshops, timelines and present the necessary reports.
